Dear Arthur and Irene. Here goes a few lines in hope you recieve it and will drop a line and let us know how you all are. We have been wondering if the flood was anywhere near you and trust you are all well and happy and not working to hard. The winters have not been too bad, snappy at times. Then warm, on the whole quite liveable and we have a real comfortable self contained suite, really too hot most of the time. How are the wee folk? I do hope they are well and happy. Also Arthurs mom, trust she keeps well and happy. Pearl gets married in April so we are going out to Vancouver and will stay there for two weeks, that will be the holiday for this year.. With so many crowding to England for the coronation I wouldnt fancy going. I dont know how they accomodate them all. Will you folk be seeing the coronation or not? How far are you from London? I guess wee Michael is quite a man by now. If you have any snaps of recent date I would appreciate one. I read all about the floods over there. It makes the one we had in 1950 look very small, when you consider only two lives were lost here and hundreds over there. We had dads sister Anne and her husband over one evening a while back, he isnt well at all, he has a heart condition. Anne keeps well. We hear from Margaret and Harold Surratt in California quite ofter. They built themselves a nice home in Pacorina at 9862 Telfair Ave. Well I will close for now with love and best wishes.xxx" Another letter from Mary J reads as follows... "8/6/1951.Dear Arthur, Irene and Mum. Im ashamed to write to you all after such a time, but my shame started in the dec, when I discovered I could not send ANYBODY any gifts. This attitude I will never understand and I have given up trying to figure it out. It nearly broke my heart. As my folk were very different. I have never had the pleasure of making an xmas or new years dinner as dad always goes out on the road. He is entitled to have one or the other but he never takes either day off. Thus leaving my wishes flat. However I took the pass and went to my daughters in Vancouver for 3 weeks and let him hatch (?) How are you all anyway? As i said before if it were only possible for you all to come out here life could be easier for all of us and who knows all maybe happier. Years keep drawing on and it takes its toll on strength and pop but we all must go on. I lost a sister on april 29th she was 55. She was operated on for a bowel stoppage which turned out to be a cancerour growth. She was only 2 weeks in hospital. A great shock to me she leaves 11 of a family, 5 of them married, her youngest 10 year old. Pearl is still single and is working in Vancouver. We went to los angeles on vacation and found Michaels brother Ed, they hadnt met since 1918 so it was a bubbling meeting for a few minutes. He will be 49 this september and is still single. We saw margaret and her husband. I caught a terrible cold while down there and it still has me under the weather. John and Hilda are fine, he is working steady on the canadian pacific railroad. He likes it fine. They have 3 children, 2 girls and a boy. How are my darlings Sandra and Michael? Kiss them for mexxxxx Bless them, they would get plenty if they were within reach. What are you doing now Arthur? With this war on and so close to you all dont you think it would be better for you in Canada? My dads youngest sister died on may 3rd and was buried on the 7th, 3 days after my sister. I went to Dauphin to see my uncle he keeps wonderful at 82 but sure misses her. He is with his daughter now. Well folks please dont think I have forgotten you, that I never shall and hope to prove to you some time. Much of the SAD part of life could be made EASIER through consideration but I guess we will all have our crosses to bear. If you are not too annoyed at my delay do write. It is only the shamefullness that deterred me. I love you all and always will whatever may be ahead. So for now goodnight to you all and god bless you. Lovingly, mumxxxx ( to Michael and Sandraxxxxxxxxxxxxx)" |
